Summer sizzles in St. Louis, and we’re not willing to sit with sweltering sweaters on our needles.  On the other hand, our fingers are twitchy to create something!  To solve the dilemma we have designed a series of small projects that will teach you a new technique while sampling a variety of yarns.  You can even get ahead of your holiday gift list.

Fun With Rectangles

Saturday, August 28, 1:00-4:00

Instructors:  Robyn Schrager and Brooke Nico

Class Fee:  $30

We have been having so much fun designing with rectangles here at Kirkwood Knittery.  It’s amazing the wonderful garments you can make with just a simple garter stitch rectangle (think big scarf!).  We have dressy wraps, stoles, and jackets to suit any style or occasion.  At this workshop, we are all going to play with draping rectangles of various dimensions, and see what garments we can create with or without a few simple seams.  Then, Robyn and Brooke will talk you through the knitty-gritty of planning your own rectangle design, from yarn choice, needle size, and all the math!  Come prepared to play and drape, wear simple clothes, a t-shirt or turtleneck recommended.

Alterknitting:  English, Continental, Portuguese and Norwegian Techniques

Saturday August 14, 1:00-4:00

Instructor:  Robyn Schrager

Class Fee:  $30

Knitters around the world use different techniques to create the same fabric.  So why would you want to learn another technique?  Fair-isle knitters benefit from using both hands to do stranded color work.  And everyone sometimes suffers from repetitive stress which can be relieved by switching the way you work.
