If you are really like me, you wonder how all the elements of the magazine come together to become the highlight of my day! Kirkwood Knittery is pleased to welcome the Editor-in-Chief of Creative Knitting magazine, Kara Gott-Warner, to our shop. She will be joining us on March 15th, from 7-9pm for an informal gathering, bringing along some garments from the current issue of the magazine, including Brooke’s two featured designs. Kara can answer all your questions about what it takes to publish one of the post popular knitting magazines (she can also be persueded to autograph your issue!!). We’ll make our regular Thursday stitch-night table space even larger–plenty of room for everyone to enjoy treats and conversation with Kara while working on your current projects.

Stitchers compete in events such as Sweater Sprint, Designer Dash, WIPS Wrestling, and many, many more.  Cast on begins during the London Olympics Opening Ceremonies on July 27, and you must have completed your project by the end of the Closing Ceremonies.  Everyone who completes earns a virtual medal for online posting!

Heather Connelly did a fantastic job organizing the St. Louis team during the past two Olympic Games.  Our team was even featured as KPLR-Channel 11′s Team of the Week during their Sunday night broadcast.  We also added more stitch nights here in the shop, with the games on-screen to keep us motivated (beach volleyball anyone?).

Notes: Pattern is worked over a multiple of 7 sts. You can easily expand this to be a longer infinity scarf, or a wide wrap by increasing the number of repeats.

Tch always counts as first st throughout the pattern.

Gauge: 2 pattern repeats = approx 4″ wide x 2″ tall.

Ch 112.

Row 1: sk the 1st 2 ch (these count as dc), 2 dc in next ct, *sk 3 ch, sc in next ch, ch 2, 1 dc in each of the next 3 ch; rep from * to last 4 ch, sk 3 ch, sc in last ch. Turn.

Row 2: ch 3, 2 dc in 1st sc, *sk 3 dc, (sc, ch 3, 2 dc) in ch 3 sp, dc in next sc; rep from * ending sk 2 dc, sc in top of tch. Turn.

Repeat Row 2 for desired width of cowl.

Fasten off, and seam short ends to join the cowl. Weave in ends.

2 skeins Tahki Stacy Charles Diva (50% acrylic, 20% wool, 20% nylon, 10% silk) yarn B

U.S. Size 9 circular needles, 20”

U.S. Size 35 circular needles, 20” or 24”

Stitch marker

Gauge:

With yarn A and size 9 needles, 16 stitches, 20 rows = 4”/10cm

With yarn A and size 9 needles, cast on 100 stitches. Knit 1 row. Join, being careful not to twist stitches, place marker for beginning of round.

*Switch to yarn B and size 35 needles. Purl 2 rounds.

Switch to yarn A and size 9 needles. Knit 8 rounds.

Repeat from * 4 times, or until piece measures 9”.

Switch to yarn B and size 35 needles. Purl 2 rounds.

Switch to yarn A and size 9 needles.

Knit 1 round.

Purl 1 round.

Bind off loosely knitwise.
