If you are at all like me, the highlight of your day is when a new knitting or crocheting pattern magazine hits the shelves. It’s like the stitching gods have granted permission to find a new project to begin, which means I can buy more yarn! I eagerly skip past the new products and articles, and go right to the patterns and begin dreaming and planning. Once my breath has become even again, and my heart rate has slowed, I return to the opening pages of the magazine, and leisurely read all the pages I initially passed by; this time I read every work and study all the pictures. The third time through I linger over the ads, making notes about yarns I’ve never seen, or others which are calling me to become part of my stash.

If you are really like me, you wonder how all the elements of the magazine come together to become the highlight of my day! Kirkwood Knittery is pleased to welcome the Editor-in-Chief of Creative Knitting magazine, Kara Gott-Warner, to our shop. She will be joining us on March 15th, from 7-9pm for an informal gathering, bringing along some garments from the current issue of the magazine, including Brooke’s two featured designs. Kara can answer all your questions about what it takes to publish one of the post popular knitting magazines (she can also be persueded to autograph your issue!!). We’ll make our regular Thursday stitch-night table space even larger–plenty of room for everyone to enjoy treats and conversation with Kara while working on your current projects.

What do the Cardinals, Rams, and Kirkwood Knittery have in common? We’re all adding new team managers this year! Yes, it’s time to go into Spring Training for the quadrennial event, the Summer Ravelympics for knitters and crocheters.

Stitchers compete in events such as Sweater Sprint, Designer Dash, WIPS Wrestling, and many, many more. Cast on begins during the London Olympics Opening Ceremonies on July 27, and you must have completed your project by the end of the Closing Ceremonies. Everyone who completes earns a virtual medal for online posting!

Heather Connelly did a fantastic job organizing the St. Louis team during the past two Olympic Games. Our team was even featured as KPLR-Channel 11′s Team of the Week during their Sunday night broadcast. We also added more stitch nights here in the shop, with the games on-screen to keep us motivated (beach volleyball anyone?).

We’re looking for a team coach, IT coordinator, and PR guru, and other volunteers to help the coaches. Are you interested? Call us at 314-822-7222, or email purl@kirkwoodknittery.com. Also, let us know what you’d like to name the team this year (last Winter it was Team Toasted Ravioli).
